Avid climbing provided a fantastic opportunity for innovation, with a unique transparent bridge to a hideaway crows nest and tricky ‘science friction’ slab. We split this project between 2 builders to suit the client budget and time frame. We also engaged Eugene from WLsquared engineering to design the bridge with the light weight and glass-like aesthetic that we envisaged.

Opened: 2018

Location: Ipswich, UK

Type: Indoor Bouldering Gym

Matting: Core Climbing
Design: Tectonica Design Lab

Construction: Usteto Climbing Structures & Simon Wilson

Engineering: WL Squared

TESTIMONIAL

"Avid Climbing wanted a unique and bespoke wall design that reflected the vision and ethos of the company. Establishing itself in a new area, Avid was very keen to ensure the finished wall would have a wide range of climbing options for new and improving climbers as well as interesting features for the more experienced. Avid also wanted to ensure the wall felt open, welcoming and inviting for those with limited but growing confidence.

It was clear from the start that Michelle at Tectonica really understood our requirements. This wasn’t just another wall designer, she refined and listened carefully and came up with innovative solutions and ideas in order to make the most of the space available while also embracing the aesthetic element. The Top out area and the glass walkway through to the calming Bird Boulder remain a key element of the Avid wall design. Michelle works with sensitivity and commercial awareness which is quite a skill. Would highly recommend her work" - Lindsay Barker (Avid Climbing)
